Sept 16, SJTU-SV End-of-Summer Party

Dear Volunteers,

Please mark your calendar for an end-of-summer volunteer party between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., on Sunday, September 16.

Many thanks to Tom He’s hospitality. The party will be hosted in his 6000 sq ft house, where we can sing Karaoke and enjoy the beautiful evening view of the bay. Free food and drink will be provided. Your partners are also very welcome. Due to liability concern, we recommend NOT to bring kids. We will send the detailed address to you separately after your registration.

In this get-together, we will introduce the new volunteers, share each individual’s stories, chat about our alumni association and listen to your ideas and suggestions…

In addition, we’ll have two guest alumnus speakers, Dr. Ping Xue and Ms. Laura Luo.

Dr. Xue will give us an introduction of Shanghai Zhang Jiang InnoPark (张江高科技园) and its business incubator, policy support, financial support, environment, service and training. He will talk about Hua Hong International VC also. Dr. Ping Xue entered SJTU in 1978 as a graduate student and moved to Princeton in 1980. After receiving his Ph.D (EECS) from Princeton, he worked with the Sarnoff Research Center, NJ; Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Chartered Semiconductor; Institute of Microelectronics and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He’s now with the Shanghai ZhangJiang InnoPark Silicon Valley Representative Office, whose mission is to encourage and help people who are interested in starting business in Zhang Jiang, and provide or help linking those with a suitable VC.  Dr. Xue is looking forward to meeting the schoolmates and friends.

Ms. Laura Luo is a partner at Winston & Strawn, a Chicago based 160-year old law firm with 1000 attorneys and 15 offices around the world. Laura worked in WSGR in Palo Alto between 2001 and 2003, and late on moved to New York, and relocated back to Shanghai in 2009. Laura’s legal practice focuses on corporate finance, venture capital, private equity, capital market, M&A. Interestingly, Laura took one year off from her law firm career to work on a software start-up with a Jiao Da alumnus and a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Laura is looking forward to meeting with the alumni, catching up with old friends, and chatting about starting and doing business in China and the States. With Laura’s experience as a corporate attorney and entrepreneur, and having lived/worked in Silicon Valley, New York and Shanghai, we are sure that she will offer valuable perspective to alumni who are current or aspiring entrepreneurs. More details of Laura’s biography and her firm can be found below:

We are adding more guests and we will update with you about that.
